Music Practice

Strains of lovely music (and some not so lovely) fill our house daily.  We are all enduring the rigors of violin and piano practices, which are often accompanies by dissonant notes, harsh screeches (made by either student OR instrument), and cries of frustration.  Mistakes can be discouraging, but they are a part of learning!  If you never make any mistakes, it means you are learning nothing new.  If you are an expert at everything you do, you are not growing at all. Are you stumbling in your Christian life, discouraged by a lack of progress?  Are you laboring over Bible reading, joy, time in prayer, forgiveness?  Keep practicing!  Don't be discouraged by those "dissonant notes", those failures to be expert.  Trust the Lord Jesus to grow you in his time.  The Bible gives us this conditional promise (Galatians 6:9):

"Be not weary in well doing,
for in due season we shall reap,
IF we faint not."

For all their hard work, my aspiring musicians are reaping well-executed difficult pieces, the delight of achievement, and the joy of moving beyond past lessons.  Keep practicing, don't give up! And you, too, will reap the joy of getting better and better at what Jesus wants you to be.  Don't be weary!

  1. Oh I would love to learn to play the violin.. if only we were rich! haha.

I'm one who probably makes the most screaching noises while growing in my Christian life.. and if someone is irritated then it's terrible, but I'd rather suffer and not grow than to be an irritant! But, the truth is so just and true it's hard to shut up.

That really says alot of how Christians should be viewing each other, we are all growing (or not) and some are not tolerant of growing pains.

I'm reading Created to be his helpmeet, and now I understand our basic problem here... dh is the carnal natural man, and I'm the one standing on how it "should be" if one is a professing Christian.. arrgh.

  2. Beautiful words and I love the graphic too! How true that is...

True about the JOYFUL NOISE in our home. Anna just got a recorder and now takes pride that she "knows" violin, piano, guitar, & recorder. lol - Oh why did I point out the recorder to her? :)

True about the Spiritual practice. I was just bemoning to the Lord early this morning - rerepenting again of all my past sins and failures - thanks for reminding me that I'm not alone on that one.
