Out of the Mouths of Babes

Anybody else have a non-stop talking five year old?  My, oh my.  I love her dearly, but my ears get so tired!  I have been trying to tell her lately that if she would only talk when she really has something to say, we all would be more interested in hearing her speak.

Well, for some reason Emily has been afraid to go outside by herself, because "bad guys" might get her.  (Remember the bad guys in bathing suits? This is related, wait and see.)  I don't know where she got this idea.   But  she has figured out how not to be kidnapped: "Mom, if bad guys tried to kidnap me, I would tell them, 'You don't want to kidnap me, I talk ALL THE TIME!' " LOL!  Good strategy.

  1. a talkative 5 year old but she is older now and less talkative for the most part. I told her that I love to hear her but when she goes on and on and on I just switch off. I used to make her draw pictures instead of talking and now she writes in her journal.

We also spoke about these verses (among others)

Proverbs 10:19 When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise.

Ecclesiastes 5:7 Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore stand in awe of God.

Proverbs 25:11 A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.

  2. I have a four year old who cannot stop talking. She is precious and normally I love listening to her little chatter. But she does need to learn there are times to be quiet - like when I'm talking to my husband, or when we're in church! She's getting it, but it's a learning curve.

  3. ROFLOL - that'll teach those bad guys in swimsuits.

Anna likes to talk too and there have been times, on occassion, that I am thankful when she has gone to bed because me ears are ringing, but for the most part I thank God for that little voice. When the girls are at a friends house on rare occassions, the silence is deafening, and I miss them dearly. Not having that little voice around anymore would break my heart.

  4. Yes, I have a talkative five-year-old but he doesn't fear bad guys in bathing suits (LoL) he is obsessed with wobbers (robbers). If we laugh, he gets angry, but sometimes it's so hard not to. Right now he's out digging a deep deep hole in the yard (of course in a designated place) wearing a bright orange hoodie, bright orange sweat pants, and a bright orange stocking cap...he looks like tangerine.

BTW did you guys ever thaw out? Maybe you should get on the phone with Al Gore and ask "What's the deal Al?!?!" (LoL)

Blessings and have a great week, Julie
